How do I know if an article is peer reviewed?

I am researching peer-reviewed articles for a paper but I'm unsure where to look to confirm if they are peer-reviewed or not.

Answer

You can check to see if the journal itself is peer-reviewed by looking it up in ULRICH'SWEB Global Serials Directory. Once you've logged in to the resource, look up the journal title. Titles that are peer reviewed will show a tiny referee shirt icon (see image below).  For most journals, only original research articles go through the peer review process so if the article is a conference abstract or a letter to the editor, it has likely not been peer-reviewed.

If you have questions or need more information, please set up a virtual appointment with one of the librarians and we'll be happy to walk through it with you!
